Current Openings — ScaleX Labs Founding Engineering Team

The following founding roles are with ScaleX Labs, GIDE's technology affiliate, which is building the integrated Responsible AI platform that puts GIDE's methods directly into practitioners' hands. We are taking four working prototypes — the AI-Powered MEL System, GenTraQ™, GrantIQ™, and the ScaleX Labs Academy — from prototype to a funded MVP.

These roles are remote-first and global, and we especially encourage applicants from Africa and the wider Global South. Given our stage, we are identifying and committing talent now through letters of intent and conditional engagement, with formal, paid engagement beginning once MVP funding is secured.

1. Lead AI/Platform Engineer (founding technical lead)

Position Summary: We seek an exceptional Lead AI / Platform Engineer to own the architecture of the ScaleX Labs platform and drive all four prototypes to a robust, integrated MVP. This is the critical first engineering hire and the platform's named technical lead.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the end-to-end architecture of the integrated, offline-first platform (mobile and desktop progressive web apps).

  • Lead the prototype-to-MVP path across the MEL System, GenTraQ™, GrantIQ™, and the Academy, on shared data and process.

  • Set engineering standards for security, data privacy, performance, and Responsible AI — including human-in-the-loop design and safeguards against Shadow AI.

  • Build and mentor a small founding engineering team.

  • Work closely with the sector leads for MEL, Gender Transformative measurement, funding analytics, and training.

Qualifications:

  • Senior full-stack or platform engineering experience, including shipping production software.

  • Strong command of progressive web apps, offline-first architecture, cloud infrastructure, and application security.

  • Practical experience integrating AI or large-language-model capabilities into products.

  • Experience building for low-connectivity or Global South contexts is a strong advantage.

  • Demonstrated technical leadership.

2. Full-Stack/Backend Engineer

Position Summary: We are looking for a Full-Stack / Backend Engineer to build and scale the services and interfaces that power the platform across all four systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and build backend services, APIs, and data models that the four platforms share.

  • Contribute front-end work where needed, with a focus on responsive, offline-first user experiences.

  • Implement reliable data synchronization for intermittent-connectivity environments.

  • Uphold security, data-privacy, and performance standards across international contexts.

  • Translate practitioner feedback into functional improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Strong full-stack ability, with solid backend depth (for example, TypeScript/JavaScript and Python).

  • Experience with API design, databases, and progressive web apps.

  • A working understanding of application security and data privacy.

  • A pragmatic, test-minded approach to shipping.

3. AI/ML Engineer

Position Summary: We seek an AI / ML Engineer to design and integrate the intelligence that makes evidence generation faster and more useful — from evaluation and evidence synthesis to Gender Transformative measurement and funding analytics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and integrate AI and machine-learning features across the MEL System, GenTraQ™, and GrantIQ™.

  • Develop retrieval, analysis, and synthesis capabilities that accelerate the most labor-intensive stages of evidence work.

  • Implement Responsible AI guardrails — human-in-the-loop review, output evaluation, and safeguards against Shadow AI.

  • Collaborate with sector leads to ensure models reflect sound evaluation methodology.

Qualifications:

  • Solid machine-learning and natural-language-processing experience, including building LLM-based features.

  • Familiarity with data pipelines and model evaluation.

  • A genuine commitment to Responsible AI in practice.

  • Proficiency in Python and related tooling.
